Invisalign for Adults

Invisalign for adults is just over 20 years old. In that time, it has gone from being the new kid on the block to be one of the most sought-after and effective orthodontic treatments. Technological advancements are continuing, including iTero intraoral scanners, Invisalign Teen, Invisalign First, and Invisalign Express. The continuing improvements mean that Invisalign’s capabilities now include the correction of many complex orthodontic problems. Spain Orthodontics specializes in Invisalign for adults in Shoreline, WA.

Invisalign uses a series of custom alignment trays using SmartTrack material. The almost invisible material creates alignment trays that provide force to shift teeth into the proper position gently. SmartStaging technology allows each set of trays to adapt the positioning of teeth to create a perfect smile. The introduction of SmartForce features allows the additional force needed in some instances to shift teeth more quickly and efficiently. These combined elements make Invisalign one of the most versatile orthodontic appliances currently in use.

The Invisalign treatment system is perfect for adults and has many benefits over traditional braces:

  • Nearly invisible, and most people won’t even realize you are wearing them
  • Trays are removable, so there are almost no dietary restrictions
  • Oral hygiene is easier because patients remove trays for brushing and flossing

Invisalign can treat a variety of common alignment problems, including:

  • Over- and underbite
  • Crossbite
  • Crowding
  • Gaps and spacing
  • Open bites

How Invisalign for Adults Works

Set up your free initial consultation with Spain Orthodontics. After x-rays and an examination, Dr. Spain will discuss your options for treatment, if necessary. That will include proposed treatment plans, length of treatment, type of treatment, and projected cost.

If Invisalign is prescribed, digital images of your teeth will be made using an iTero intraoral scanner. The computer software will create a 3-D map of your teeth. A series of adjustments will be determined, and Invisalign alignment trays will be manufactured. The succession of the tray sets will gently shift your teeth over time into the correct alignment positions.

Invisalign is a more patient-centered treatment than traditional braces. Once you have your tray liners, it falls on you to make sure that you wear them for 20 to 22 hours per day (22 is better). You will have a schedule and will shift up to the next set of trays in succession approximately every two weeks. You will have appointments set at six or eight weeks to make sure that everything is progressing well.

That’s all there to it. If you’re ready to take charge of getting your perfect smile, talk to Spain Orthodontics about Invisalign for adults.
