Invisalign First

Invisalign was initially developed and marketed for adults. With increasing popularity, Align Technologies added the Invisalign Teen line the incorporated features designed for active teens. Recognizing a need for Phase 1 early intervention, Align Technologies developed Invisalign First, which completed market testing in 2017 and 2018.

What is Invisalign First?

Invisalign First is a specially designed progression of clear alignment trays used for Phase 1 treatment plans. Phase 1 treatment deals with children that need early intervention. They have a combination of primary teeth and adult teeth. Phase 1 treatment helps to correct problems before they worsen and prepare a child for incoming adult teeth. There are many advantages to Phase 1 treatment:

  • Works to fix existing bite abnormalities
  • Improves the appearance of a child’s smile
  • Corrects over- and underbites to prepare for adult teeth
  • Prevents existing problems from worsening

Because it is specifically for young patients aged 6 to 10 years, Invisalign First is a great way to gently improve your child’s smile. It can help correct various dentition issues, including overcrowding, the spacing of teeth, protruding teeth, and bite abnormalities. Invisalign First works to expand the jawline and to fix current problems. It is also beneficial in preparing the jaw for the future growth of adult teeth.

Because the alignment trays are removable, your child won’t have to adhere to any special dietary restrictions. Oral hygiene is also more accessible, as your child can brush and floss normally. Parents can easily monitor their children during brushing and assist with alignment tray cleanliness.

Invisalign First is becoming the treatment of choice for Phase 1 treatment. Early intervention is also known to decrease the length and severity of Phase 2 treatment programs.

If you think your child might be a candidate for early intervention, please talk to us at Spain Orthodontics. If Dr. Spain determines that early intervention isn’t necessary after an examination, your child will enter a monitoring program. Spain Orthodontics can monitor your child’s tooth and jaw development to catch potential problems early.
